In New Jersey, dental offices are required to complete an initial examination before providing any treatment, including cleanings. At our office, this exam is comprehensive and personalized to your needs. Because those needs change over time, we offer different types of exams based on age and individual concerns.

About Your First Visit

During your first visit, we will conduct a 5-point comprehensive initial exam. It’s a little more involved than a conventional dental exam, so please allow up to 90 minutes for your visit. To save time at your appointment, please download and complete your new patient forms in advance.

During your first visit, we will conduct a 5-point comprehensive initial exam. It’s a little more involved than a conventional dental exam, so please allow up to 90 minutes for your visit. To save time at your appointment, please download and complete your new patient forms in advance.

 

During our 5-point Comprehensive Exam, we evaluate:

  • The esthetics of your smile
  • The function of your bite, muscles, and joints
  • The condition of your teeth
  • The health of your gums, bone, and soft tissue
  • Your airway competence

The 5-point exam also typically includes:

  • Full set of digital x-rays
  • Exterior and intra-oral photos
  • Bite observations/range of motion analysis
  • Dental history review
  • Personal Dental Hygiene Plan
  • A full explanation of our findings, with treatment options

During your initial visit, we’ll determine what type of cleaning would be most appropriate for you. Then we’ll schedule you for a session with one of our hygienists, usually within the following two weeks.

Things to bring with you:

  • Insurance card (if any)
  • License or other photo ID
  • Completed new patient forms
  • A list of any dental problems you’ve been experiencing
